Dear colleague, Welcome to the Big Thicket All Taxa Biological Inventory and the Thicket of Diversity. I am pleased that you have chosen to join our effort to inventory this diverse region. As I am sure you know, we have a monumental collective effort ahead of us. The area we have chosen to work on may be one of the most diverse in North America, and also currently one of the least known. You will find eastern and western species, temperate and subtropical species, and probably a few endemics. It is truly a great place to study the organisms we love. |

- As President of this organization, I can assure you that you are not working alone.
- We have scientists already working on several groups; a data base group helping to collect, organize, and distribute our data; an outreach group helping us involve the public, including bringing you together with citizen scientists to help you in your work; and a finance group finding money to help make it all possible.
- Please feel free to contact any of these people.
- In addition to our organization we have the support of the Big Thicket National Preserve.
- The staff of the preserve also have a monumental task in trying to manage the resources of the park with far too few employees and not enough resources.
- This is a great and professional
staff to work with and our goals are the same, to understand, protect, and manage the resources
of this spectacular region.
- As you begin your work remember that you are not alone.
- Citizen scientists are waiting to help you in your collections; other scientists are also working in the park and may be able to help with your collections, or at least help you to get started; and the staff of the Big Thicket National Preserve can certainly aid in pointing you in the right direction to get started.

Research Station located in Saratoga.
